What is it?
In Ontario, when selling a vehicle privately, retail sales tax is payable when the vehicle ownership is transferred. However, vehicles transferred between certain family members are exempt from retail sales tax. Such family members include, but are not limited, to: spouse, parent, sibling, child, etc. Only one such tax-exempt transfer is allowed within a 12-month period. Find out more about the program here.
