WestJet/Swoop Guest Request for Temporary Exemption: COVID-19 Non-Vaccination Based on Religious Grounds

If you are planning on flying with WestJet or Swoop and you are not vaccinated with an approved COVID-19 vaccine based on religious grounds, you may need to apply for a temporary exemption in order to fly. ​Transport Canada Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement 

As per Government of Canada / Transport Canada, effective October 30, 2021 air passengers departing from Canadian airports, travellers on VIA Rail and Rocky Mountaineer trains, and travellers on non-essential passenger vessels on voyages of 24 hours or more, such as cruise ships, will need to be vaccinated.

Effective October 30, travellers will need to be fully vaccinated in order to board. Specifically, the vaccination requirement will apply to all travellers 12 years of age and older who are:
  • Air passengers flying on domestic, transborder or international flights departing from airports in Canada
  • Rail passengers on VIA Rail and Rocky Mountaineer trains
WestJet/Swoop Religious Grounds Exemption Form

If you are planning to fly with WestJet or Swoop, you may be granted a temporary exemption if you have not been vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccine and you have valid religious grounds. 

You must complete a Guest Request for Temporary Exemption: COVID-19 Non-Vaccination Based on Religious Grounds form. Download the form here. The form must be signed before a commissioner of oaths.

Things to Know

It is important to know the following if you are considering applying for a religious exemption from WestJet: 
  • ​The religious exemption form can be used for both WestJet and Swoop. 
  • Foreign nationals entering Canada are not eligible for a religious exemption.
  • You must submit the completed religious exemption form to the WestJet Regulatory Guest Relations team at least 3 weeks prior to your flight. 
  • The WestJet Regulatory Guest Relations team will inform you whether your religious exemption is approved or not. 
  • If your religious exemption is approved you will still be required to submit a valid COVID-19 test in order to fly. 
  • If your religious exemption is approved, it is valid for all flights taken in a three (3) month period.
