What Is A Statutory Declaration To Confirm The Relationship Of An Extended Family Member in Canada

As of November 2023, the Canadian government has announced a new humanitarian pathway for Colombian, Haitian and Venezuelan foreign nationals to obtain permanent residency in Canada. This is a program for:
  • nationals of Colombia, Haiti or Venezuela, and
  • currently live in South or Central America, Mexico or the Caribbean, and
  • whose family member in Canada is:
    • a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
    • your spouse, common-law partner, child (of any age), grandchild, parent, grandparent, or sibling
    • willing to support their application

Your family member (or "anchor" person) in Canada will have to complete a Statutory Declaration to Confirm the Relationship of An Extended Family Member in Canada (IMM 5990). Learn about the rest of the application process and download the form here.

The statutory declaration must be signed by solemn declaration in the presence of a person who, by law, is authorized to receive a solemn declaration. Neighbourhood Notary can help receive your solemn declaration and commission your completed form.
